North Cascade National Park

North Cascade is a hidden gem. I had never heard much about this national park, and we didn’t even have it on our radar. We camped next to some fellow travelers that were heading in the opposite direction that said they liked it better than almost anywhere they had been. So, we definitely wanted to check it out. We lucked out into a spot in the Newhalem campground and went exploring.

Leavenworth, Washington

Not only is this the cutest little german town I have seen since leaving New Braunfels, but it is surrounded by the most amazing national forest deemed the Alpine Lakes Wilderness Area. We set out to do our longest, toughest hike to date with the boys. After being in some pretty smokey areas through central Washington due to wildfires throughout the west, we were ready to hit the trail for the 9 mile out and back to Colchuck Lake. 9 miles with a 3 and 5 year old… are we crazy?!

Spokane, Washington

Our first stop in Washington was to Spokane on a blisteringly hot day. This portion of our trip got rearranged due to the excessive heat in the area. We drove north to have a nice, cool summer… ha!

Downtown Spokane has an amazing park with activities for the kids and a walk along the river.

Summer at Schweitzer Ski Resort

From West Yellowstone, we cut back across to Missoula to stay with one of the most friendly Harvest Hosts we have found (our 2nd visit here!) as we made our way into northern Idaho. It was late July and HOT. 100 degrees in a camper with no A/C is not okay.
