We continued north from Salmon, Idaho and made it to Montana! Our first stop was a small town in the Bitterroot Valley, Darby. Home of the current TV series, Yellowstone, we snapped a picture of the ranch that the Kevin Costner series is filmed. The land is as beautiful in person as it is on the show!

Just south of Salmon, Idaho is a lovely 3.5 mile round trip hike to Goldbug Hot Spring. The hike itself is great, with some moderately steep ascents at the beginning and end, but overall an easy trek. You come to the hot spring and there are waterfalls and pools everywhere.

What a beautiful part of the country. The drive from Boise (we took 55 to 17 to 21) through the Boise National Forest is absolutely gorgeous. You follow the Payette River and pass through many small town and farm properties with mountains and pines all around.
We drove this path early June and were caught in a snowstorm at the higher elevations! We had spent a few weeks in the heat and this was a crazy change of pace that happened fairly quickly.

Heading further south, we stopped in Twin Falls to see Shoshone Falls. Although it wasn’t flowing at full capacity, the falls is stunning. The park around the falls is well maintained and there is a walking path you can take to see the falls from different angles.
